A must stop when in downtown Fairbanks. We were lucky enough to wander into it. The owner was in as well and was super enthusiastic about people stopping in and he loved telling about the business and his family history in Alaska. I had the spicy reindeer sausage with fries, pricey but good!
I am a 4th generation Alaskan, and although my parents and grandparents frequented Soapy Smith's, I have not visited... until today. Not only are the owners multi-generation Alaskans, they take an active roll working the establishment. I had a wonderful experience! I had the king crab burger. I liked it. I dont usually like any fish type sandwiches. I also had the clam chowder. It was good. The fries were sooo perfect, I didnt have to salt them or even use ketchup. They were seriously too good for ketchup! I say everyone should stop by and check it out! Ill be back to try something else on the menu! Maybe they will make a King crab patty w/o the bun for me next time. Go support the locals!
This is a must try place if you are a local or in town to vacation! Get a history lesson and see some local artifacts all while you eat a great freshly prepared meal!
